Fractal Music

Structural Scaling

Looking at the first two measure pattern, it consists of our introductory six notes which span four beats, followed by a second group spanning four beats.

Unlike the second group, however, the introductory six notes can naturally be divided into two rhythmically identical, two-beat phrases consisting of two eight notes and a quarter note.

Taken two beats at a time, the first two measures look like this.

Short (2 beats) Short (2 beats) Long (4 beats)

The same argument can be made for the second two-measure pattern.
